As those of you who have been actively involved with restoring Jesmond Old Cemetery will know, it is quite hard work cutting back those brambles and ivy with shears and loppers. Although I haven’t heard too many complaints about aching wrists and shoulders, I have to say that I moan all the time about my post-Jesmond lopper’s shoulder disease!!! Anyway, having listened to one or two (or ten, really) suggestions about how we might speed up our activity (and reduce the aches and pains), I have put together a bid to the Sir James Knott Trust for funding to help us purchase two petrol powered brush cutters!!!
What the hell are they, I hear you say. Well, think of garden strimmers with attitude. And metal cutting blades!!! If successful in our bid, these pieces of kit will show no mercy to any bramble stupid enough to raise it’s woody stem. Additionally, loppers shoulder will be a thing of the past. However, I can envisage a bit of a bun fight when it comes to deciding who will use them!!! My moneys on on my Dad and Mr C. to be the first to use ‘em, assuming we get them of course.
The bid was submitted on Friday 2nd January. I’ll keep you posted on developments.
